How to identify your leadership type

With all the up-and-coming leadership programs in India, there is a new way of leadership in different businesses. Leadership is now a broad term, and people understand leadership, leadership types, and more. This article will try to solve a complex problem for you, identifying your leadership style. Before we jump onto that, let us talk about leadership first.

Leadership is the process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task. Leadership is often associated with a position or title, but it also refers to qualities that are not dependent on any particular status. Leadership qualities typically include vision, integrity, empathy and competence. The fundamental leadership skill is leading people to do what they don’t want to do to achieve what they want.

Leadership has been a topic of discussion for a long time. It has been the topic of many books, seminars, and courses. The question is not whether leadership matters but how it matters. The answer is that leadership matters a lot because it drives the success or failure of an organization. Leadership is the process by which individuals influence others to achieve organizational goals. Leadership is one of the most crucial factors in an organization’s success because it motivates people to work together toward their common purpose and encourages people to take risks and innovate.

Types of Leadership

  • Transformational Leadership:

It is a style of leadership that focuses on empowering and motivating followers through a process of shared vision, personal motivation, and mutual trust. It is contrasted with transactional leadership. Transformational leadership relies on the idea that to develop an effective leader, one must be able to motivate followers to work toward a common goal. Transformational leaders inspire their followers to work towards a common goal. They are also more likely to use symbols, metaphors, and analogies to communicate their point. The leader must also be able to provide the follower with direction and support so that they can achieve the goal as well. There are five components of this leadership:

1) providing followers with a clear vision;

2) creating personal motivation;

3) producing mutual trust;

4) empowering others; and

5) providing constructive feedback.

  • Transactional Leadership:

Transactional leadership is the idea that one can lead by giving instructions and directions, but this is not always the most effective teaching method. Transactional leadership is when a leader provides instructions or suggestions to their team members. Transformational leadership is when a leader inspires team members to want to work for them and achieve goals together. Transactional leaders focus on getting tasks done to meet deadlines. They are more results-oriented than inspirational, which meaning they are less likely to use symbols, metaphors, or analogies when communicating with their followers.

  • Laissez-Faire Leadership:

The laissez-faire leader or a hands-off leader does not micromanage or try to control what other people do at all times, but they let things happen organically.

These are the three leadership types, but the question remains how do you identify your leadership type? Well, let us solve that for you as well. One of the most crucial things for a leader is to know their leadership style. You must know this because it will help you identify what type of team environment you thrive in. Some leaders believe in having a more hands-on approach to their employees, while others believe in delegating tasks to their employees and letting them take care of the rest. So, to identify your leadership style, you have to look at your skills and qualities and then figure out what type will suit you more.
