Neighborhood blogger intends to shield libel lawsuit

Local blogger Gerry Barker intends to defend himself in opposition to a $500,000 defamation lawsuit released towards him with the aid of Town of Guelph Deputy CAO Mark Amorosi.

Barker filed a note of motive to guard with the Ontario Advanced Court of Justice on Nov. 29.

He’s being represented through Guelph legal professional Sharon Ilavsky of the regulation firm Miller Thomson.

Amorosi filed the lawsuit on Nov. 15.
Amorosi claims statements and accusations made on Barker’s GuelphSpeaks.Ca weblog during the last 4 years are false, defamatory and hurt his reputation.

He claims Barker has made statements that when read and understood by means of “affordable readers” could, amongst different matters, inaccurately painting Amorosi as someone that doesn’t understand what he is talking about, misinforms the general public, is irresponsible, distorts records, gave himself and others unauthorized raises, is not qualified to be a Deputy CAO and is incompetent and irresponsible.

It also states Barker made no try to confirm records, deliberately omits sure records and that he has in no way interviewed or contacted Amorosi concerning the accusations.

Not one of the accusations made by using Amorosi have not begun been validated in Courtroom and Barker has no longer yet filed his statement of defense.
